Surprise findings when comparing the Apple 2016 Macbook 12″ to the 2013 Macbook Air 11″
Taking a look at the two most direct competitors within the Apple notebook lineup in this head to head Macbook review. Both run for 10 hours, under 2.5lbs, and offer the ultimate portable full computing experience.

Find out how the Intel HD 515 compares to the HD 5000 and how the latest M series chip compares to the i5 Haswell in the Air.

The case on the 2016 Macbook is actually glossy transparent black with the logo cutout, harder to find those now. The two closest I could find on Amazon are these with no cutout:

  • Apple should bring back the 11 inch MacBook Air with the 12 inch MacBook design, with an actual cooling fan that actually cools the computer*, a *working keyboard*, and *at least 2 usb-c ports

  • We had to bust out the 2010 Macbook for ___? Get what you can afford as well as which ever device hives you the most features to satisfy productivity and enjoyment. There is no "perfect" or "best" laptop. Never ever. Simple.

  • The CPU and graphics benchmarks are too close to determine a winner; therefore, it comes down to a money:performance ratio. The MBA is the clear winner. Add on the port selection, displays…there is a simple conclusion: preference. Every single video on YT comes to this conclusion and always will.

  • Why did you get a different keyboard layout on the 12 inch macbook?

  • 1:50 Who types like that? You maybe need to learn how to use a modern keyboard not one from the 90s. Learn to slide your fingers across it rather than punching it.

  • 2 points which I think are important, the Air is smaller, which means more likely to fit into a bag pocket. Also when watching films the new display on the 12" will be wasted as will have bigger black bar at the top and bottom, although resolution will be better of course. I think Apple have gone too far into making the latest model a fashion accessory. Why have such a thin keyboard? Still at least they still make the pro.

  • Very interesting. I tried the new MacBook and found it sluggish on performance… returned it. I’m buying a used Air! Although I do love that new screen.

  • Fantastic review and comparison video.. Exactly what I needed as I'm looking for a highly portable spare mac for work use. I know the general standards of tech and specs but I think for practicality and daily living sensibility, the Air has to be one of the best laptops ever made regardless of its outdated internals and screen res. I was so close to getting a macbook 12", simply because of its portability and construction.. but the price point was hard to swallow even for a long time user of apple products. After a while, I just kinda thought to myself, whatever I guess I'll just pay it and get it over with but I still didn't feel good about it. In the end, I bought a refurbished Air 11" from my local apple store. Saved quite a bit. Another thing many ppl don't realize is you can still "manually" upgrade the Air models.. ram and hard drives and boards can actually be easily replaced if damaged and can be upgraded too. The macbook 12" is beautiful, but i think ultimately it still has to have a reasonable "apple price point".
Thanks for this simple but very necessary video!!

  • Oh…my….God. This is JUST the comparison I needed.  I just got a used Air 11" 2013, but base model, as I previously had no Mac and my netbook crashed. Been needing a Mac to complete my Mac/iOS ecosystem, but Im surprised to see such modest gains…..especially compared to a now 4 year old Mac. Never thought anyone would compare these two machines…thanks a bunch! Still working on my ideal setup (iMac, MacBook Air or Retina, iPhone, iPad Mini, Apple Watch). I'm sort of a bird duck.
