  • You can’t beat Plate Pie. It’s the best. Corned beef, chips, beans and HP sauce 😋 I miss the North East so much.

  • Followed the recipe and it came out perfect, I have used various recipes previously with varying rates of success, even the pastry came out perfect, with so many choices as to what to bake next it’s a really good headache to have but it’s got to the steak pie.👍🏻

  • I'm a South Shields mam, currently living on the Isle of Man, and this recipe took me back to my nanna's kitchen in Whitburn. I've been trying to make this for my family for weeks but the island has completely run out of corned beef!

  • I've made this today and its turned out better than anything I've ever paid for. Also I had no idea pastry making in the processor was so quick! I'll definitely be making this one again.

  • I'm from bishop auckland mate not far at all from your neck of the wood. I have just done this today after a mate of mine from sunderland told me about you. I have got to say pal this pie is absolutely immense. That pepper does add that nice kick and it's just like how my mum made them for me as a kid.

Thanks john I'm looking at your website and that recipe book. Might just have to order.

  • “Mammy” made this for us growing up, and she’d make pasties using the same filling. I made this last week, so easy, so tasty.

  • Thanks for this fabulous recipe and we will be using it – can I ask you a totaly unrelated question about home made cheese scones. I made some yesterday to an old recipe and the following morning on cutting open I found them to be grey ? Yesterday perfect today grey inside 😣 second time this has happened ? I do add pepper could it be the pepper?

  • I'm diabetic and I've been growing and using Sunchokes (Jerusalem Artichokes). I'll give this a shot with them instead of potatoes. This looks great.
