Fieldsports Britain – Hare vs eagle + British wild boar + Welsh miners hunting

We are launching eagles on hares in Lincolnshire, George Digweed on wild boar in Sussex and we are out with the Banwen Miners foxhounds pack in the Valleys of South Wales. It’s a packed programme this week, with incredible footage of hares’ tactics when faced with Roy Lupton and friends’ flying eagles. Meanwhile, George Digweed has been after a wild boar for months, and finally has his chance. And who says foxhunting is snooty when men come up from the coal pits, shower, change into hunting pink and ride out with hounds? Nicky Sadler tells the story of a pack that celebrates its fiftieth season this year. Then there are our regulars: News Stump, Kit Special, Hunting YouTube and our gundog training series with Skinners Petfoods. It’s another packed programme.

  • Shame, I thought hunters cared about wildlife yet the mountain and brown hare are being culled so much that there numbest have decreased dramatically in the last couple of years

  • Great footage – Still amazed at the daft law that allows hunting a hare with birds of prey but not with hounds though…

  • A heart/lung shot is a more consistent, reliable kill shot then a head shot. Miss the brain on a head shot, and you have an animal dying a slow, horrible death. Lung/heart provides a larger target, with less likelihood of wounding. In this case, Ian's doing it right.

  • I really enjoy this show and can hardly wait till the next episode. Have you gentlemen considered visiting your convict cousins here in Australia? I am sure there are a number of outfitters who would be willing to accomodate you in order to lift their profile in the UK market. Quarry here includes pigs, goats, buffalo, camels, donkeys, foxes, rabbits, and more and I haven't even mentioned the fishing. I'm sure your other viewer would love to see an Aussie special!!

  • Really? My succss rate is very high and I've not lost an animal yet at night… It's always interesting to hear a different opinion, but I'm not sure why I in particular need to follow suit? What is it am I getting wrong in relation to my night vision hunting and what examples do you have to support your comment?

  • Good shooting George! It's refreshing to hear sensible and humane reasons for head shooting the quarry, I agree with you that heart/lung shots at night with no methods of tracking should be avoided at night. Maybe Ian Harford should follow suit.
